What is ISM / NAPM?
Founded in 1915, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), formerly known as the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM), is one of the most respected educational associations in the United States. ISM is a communication link with more than 48,000 purchasing and supply management professionals.

ISM is a progressive association with a mission to provide national and international leadership in purchasing and materials management, particularly in the areas of education, research and standards of excellence. Through various resources and a network of 180 affiliated organizations, ISM provides opportunities for expansion of professional skills and knowledge. A not-for-profit association, ISM offers a wide range of educational products and programs.

What is an affiliate?
There are approximately 180 ISM affiliates throughout the United States and the world. Each affiliate is a corporate entity, incorporated in the State in which it resides. As such; the affiliate is not a part of the corporation known as "International Institute of Supply Management", headquartered in Tempe, Arizona. As a member of an ISM affiliate you are entitled to all of the benefits and services provided by ISM along with those of the local affiliate.

What is NAPM-SFV?
The National Association of Purchasing Management, San Fernando Valley (NAPM-SFV) is an affiliate of ISM. NAPM-SFV was founded and associated with NAPM in 1988. All members of NAPM-SFV are also members of ISM. NAPM-SFV is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of California. In addition to the benefits and services of ISM, NAPM-SFV provides local networking, professional development, local dinner meetings, newsletter, seminars, including satellite seminars, professional speakers, and other benefits to keep purchasing and supply management professionals current and valuable to themselves and their employers.

 Why was the name changed from NAPM to ISM?
The Institute for Supply Management™, established in 1915, is the world's leading educator of supply management professionals and is a valuable resource for decision makers in major markets, companies, and government. In May 2001 the membership of NAPM voted to change the association's name from the National Association of Purchasing Management to the Institute for Supply Management™ to reflect the increasing strategic and global significance of supply management.

  How do I contact NAPM-SFV?
If you have a specific question regarding membership, upcoming programs, or educational seminars, you can contact the appropriate chair person by going to our website, www.napmsfv.org and clicking the BOD folder. For general questions or to register for an event, call and leave a message at (818) 993-0995 and someone will contact you within 48 hours.
